At the October monthly meeting of the 68th Precinct Community Council,Deputy Inspector Richard DiBlasio explained to the gathering how helpful video cameras have been in solving local crimes.

While the NYPD will be adding hi-tech TV along three sections ofupper Fifth Avenue and many stores along the shopping strip have TV cameras, several residents expressed concern about rowdy and sometimes menacingteenagers hanging out near or on the stoops of their homes on side streets. One resident spoke about drug sales he seeshappening frequently on one of those sidestreets.

DiBlasio responded by telling residents not to confront them but to call 911.At the same time, he strongly urged homeowners to add videocameras which will help police to identify troublemakers and provide additional protection.
