A 20-year-old Brooklyn mother has been charged with second degree murder and manslaughter in the death of her 19-month-old son, who was found unconscious and unresponsive in their apartment at Ocean Avenue and Glenwood Road on Sunday, October 6, said police.

Police showed up at the apartment building at 1199 Ocean Avenue in Victorian Flatbush at around 7:52 p.m. in response to a call about a “possible emotionally disturbed female” in the apartment. Neighbors reportedly saw the woman dangling the baby from a window and screaming for help.

Anna Thomas and her toddler son Justin Stephens were found inside the apartment; Stephens was rushed to Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA).

A suicide note was reportedly found, as well, in which Thomas is said to have written “Justin is dead and so am I.”

Thomas was unharmed when police arrived.

The investigation is ongoing.
