After much speculation and uncertainty, incumbent Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes has made it clear that he will seek reelection on the Conservative and Republican ticket this November.

“[Hynes] refuses to turn his back on the people of Brooklyn, the thousands of families he has helped with his domestic-violence initiatives, the drug addicts reformed through his programs, the rehabilitated who are back in society,” said Jerry Schmetterer, Hynes’ new campaign spokesperson.

Hynes was defeated in the September Democratic Primary by former prosecutor Ken Thompson by a 10-point margin. Though Hynes was defeated as a Democrat he remained on the Republican and Conservative Party ticket.

Schmetterer noted that Hynes, after previously stating that he would cease all campaign efforts following September’s defeat, made the decision to reenter the race after an encouraging fundraiser held in Brooklyn on Wednesday yielding $150,000 for Hynes’ reelection campaign.
