Raise your highballs at the Gowanus Gatsby dance party
Take a trip back to the roaring twenties on Saturday, October 5, when the Gowanus Ballroom will be transformed for the Gowanus Gatsby dance party, celebrating the completion of the first phase of Douglass Greene Park’s renovation.
Organizers say there will be much ambiance, with a new moon above a candle-lit Gowanus Canal. The warehouse art space will become a dance hall, filled with attendees in costume dancing to jazz music, provided by the Michael Arenella Quintet, for a dance and costume competition.
The special fundraiser soiree also highlights the advocacy of the Friends of Douglass Greene Park, which is a public park located on a full city block near Third Avenue and 9th Street. Awards will be given out to those who “enhanced” the park, including Public Advocate Bill de Blasio; Councilmember Stephen Levin; Charlene Nimmons, president of the Wyckoff Gardens Resident Association; Sue Wolfe, president of Friends of Douglass Greene Park; and former president of the Boerum Hill Association and Taxi and Limousine Commissioner David Yassky.
