The 80-year-old Kilgen Pipe Organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Victorian Flatbush has been restored to its former glory and will be re-dedicated in a grand community celebration on Friday, October 18, which will feature world-famous organist Olivier Latry.

Latry will be flying in from his home church at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, in order to help welcome the historic musical instrument back to the church and larger Brooklyn artistic and educational community.

The organ underwent six years of restoration work to repair and rebuild it, protecting it against future wear and tear. Thousands of dollars in donations from around the world helped to fund the restoration.

Our Lady of Refuge, located at 2020 Foster Avenue, also underwent major renovations to repair its water-weakened exterior.

If you would like to request a piece for Latry to perform at the ceremony, tweet the suggestion to #latryinNYC.

The re-dedication ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.. Tickets are available at http://www.olrbrooklyn.org/organ-recitals-in-new-york-city/.

Originally built in 1933 by George Kilgen & Son of St. Louis, Missouri, the Kilgen Pipe Organ Op. 5163 began use at Our Lady of Refuge in June of 1934. For more information on the organ, visit https://www.facebook.com/kilgen5163.
