It was a gloomy morning with off-and-on-again rain showers, but nothing was going to put a damper on Nickelodeon’s 10th annual Day of Play event! Families by the masses crowded Prospect Park to enjoy a full day of play with Nickelodeon stars and former and current professional athletes, and to watch a concert starring Big Time Rush and Arianna Grande.

Brooklyn Nets Center Brook Lopez danced on stage with young Brooklynites and former NBA player Greg Anthony was spotted putting up some jump-shots with the young ones as an exciting atmosphere of fun overtook the overcast of clouds and made way for a bright sunny day of play.

Celebrities or not, Nickelodeon packed Prospect Park with a variety of games and sporting events that thrilled and elated the children, but most importantly, kept them moving and on their feet.

Recently retired New York Jet Bart Scott, who came out with his two children, said, “It’s important to stay active. There are so many thing kids can do today to stay inside and not be active, it’s important to make sure they get out and play. The kids are having a ball.”

That they did. While Scott was on the “orange” carpet getting his picture taken and being interviewed, his children slowly snuck away with his crew to go play some more. “They liked the picture-taking for a little bit, but they want to go back to the games,” laughed Scott.

Engaged in activities involving everything from life-sized chess boards to Zumba, thousands of kids of all ages were out laughing, playing, and having fun at the Day of Play.

“This is what it’s all about,” said Nickelodeon star Ryan Newman of “See Dad Run.”

“We’re out here having a blast and, to the kids that aren’t here, GET HERE!” he exclaimed.

Besides Newman, a whole heap of Nickelodeon stars were out including the cast of “The Haunted Hathaways,” Sydney Park and Tylen Williams from Nick at Nite’s new series “Instant Mom;” Jeff Sutphen, the host of “Figure It Out.” Ciara Bravo from “Big Time Rush” stunned the carpet, while Big Time Rush and Arianna Grande dazzled the crowd with an amazing concert to conclude the Day of Play.
