A judge has formally given a death sentence to a man who killed two New York City police officers in 2003.
A jury had decided on the death penalty for Ronell Wilson in July. The judge pronounced the sentence on Tuesday.
The officers were shot during a gun sting.
A jury convicted Wilson in 2006, then sentenced him to death in early 2007. But an appeals court overturned the sentence.
Prosecutors then sought the death penalty from a new jury.
The government argued that Wilson was a cold-blooded killer who deserved death. His lawyers portrayed him as the product of a troubled background.
In February, authorities revealed Wilson fathered a child with a jail guard while awaiting the proceedings. She’s since pleaded guilty to an illegal sex act.
