Election season is here, but this November is about more than just the race for NYC mayor. There are numerous races for City Council seats, as well, and to that end, there will be a debate TONIGHT between the candidates who seek to represent the 33rd Council District (Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, and Gowanus).

The Battle of the Stephens will put incumbent Councilmember Stephen Levin and challenger Stephen Pierson against one another in a debate/discussion about real estate development, concerns about over-development, hospital closures, Vito Lopez, charter schools, the Gowanus Canal, and more.

A Question-and-Answer period will also allow neighborhood residents to chime in with their questions and concerns.

This debate, which will start at 7 p.m. at the Polish & Slavic Center at 176 Java Street, is the “first and only confirmed debate” between the two candidates. It is sponsored by the New Kings Democrats and the Greenpoint Gazette, and will be co-moderated by Lacey Tauber and Jeff Mann.
