Nerd Nite, the monthly presentation series held in more than 50 cities across the globe during which several folks give 18-to-21-minute fun-yet-informative presentations across all disciplines—while the audience drinks along—has announced the full program for its first annual Nerd Nite Global Festival, Aug. 16-18, 2013, at the Brooklyn Lyceum. The global fest’s agenda features nearly 20 of Nerd Nite’s greatest hits presentations from across the globe, plus games, trivia, mingling with fellow nerds and lots of free beer and cheap wine.

Presentations run a gamut of topics and disciplines, ranging from Planet Construction, Caught in the Act by Dr. Joel Green of Austin, Tex., to Godzilla: History, Biology and Behavior of Hyper-Evolved Theropod Kaiju by Shyaporn  Theerakulstit of New York.  In addition to a dry t-shirt contest, unusual walking tours of New York and a gaming room, the highlight of the festival will be the producers of Radiolab and the editor-in-chief of Popular Science, Jake Ward, drinking on stage while answering audience questions as part of Drunk Science.

“Since we here at Nerd Nite have done such an extraordinarily poor job of sharing content across our 50+ cities worldwide, we thought giving our audience free beer for three days while allowing them to learn from our greatest presenters from around the world seemed like the right thing to do,” said Matt Wasowski, Big Boss of Nerd Nite.  “Plus, just creating a fun, lively, engaging experience for everyone would just be a lot of fun. After all, learning is best done when tipsy and amongst fellow people eager to learn and laugh.”
