Coney Island has one of the most famous beaches in America, so why not have beach volleyball there?

That’s exactly what the sponsors of the first-ever Place to Beach (PTB) Volleyball Tournament apparently are thinking.

Coney Island will be the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 10 as the one-day sports happening takes place. The contest will feature both a men’s and women’s draw, along with a cash prize of $1,000.

From 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., spectators and beach-goers will get a chance to see some of the best volleyball players on the East Coast battle it out on the sand.

Among the players scheduled to play on Saturday are Michael Salak, Elvis Rodriguez, Alejandro Flores, Svetlana Simic, Stephanie Volklers, Hilary Pavels and Dana Fiume.

Stars from the NBA, the WNBA and past olympic games are also expected to be on hand for the tournament.

The excitement will take place on the beach at the Stillwell Avenue entrance.

Following the action, an awards ceremony and after-party will take place at PTB Cantina next to the tournament site, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The party is open to all.

In the event of rain, the beach volley will be played the following day, on Sunday, Aug. 11.

A portion of the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to AllStarr Volleyball, a non-profit organization that helps junior volleyball players develop their skills.
