Good morning. Today is the 214th day of the year. On this day in 1902, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported that New York City Controller Coler (no first name given) would decide where Brooklyn’s “Carnegie libraries” would be placed. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie donated money for 1,689 libraries across the U.S. and more in Canada, Britain and Ireland. Eventually, 21 Carnegie libraries were built in Brooklyn. Among the best known are the Carroll Park branch in Carroll Gardens, the Pacific and Prospect branches in Park Slope and the Walt Whitman branch in Fort Greene.
