As its “Map of the Month,” the Brooklyn Historical Society recently sent us a 1918 map of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit (BRT) subway and elevated system. The BRT evolved into the better-known Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Co. (BMT), which in turn became part of MTA New York City Transit. Many of the lines shown here are still in use. Others, mainly elevated lines like the Lexington Avenue and Myrtle Avenue “els,” have been torn down. Courtesy of Brooklyn Historical Society.
