Twelve Brooklyn projects and companies were recognized on Wednesday July 10 at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s 13th Annual Building Brooklyn Awards in Red Hook.

Carlo Scissura, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce,  opened the ceremony at the Liberty Warehouse, discussing the destruction that the neighborhood faced after Hurricane Sandy.

“It is fitting that we are in Red Hook post-Sandy for the Building Brooklyn Awards, a truly wonderful event that recognizes recently completed construction and renovation projects that enrich our borough’s diverse neighborhoods and economy,” stated Scissura.

The honorees, awarded by an independent jury, were winners of a specific  community-enhancing category such as the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation Pier 5 for Landscape and Open Space, the Kensington Library under the category of Civic and Institutional, and the Gilbert Rivera Pavilion/Maimonides Breast Cancer Center for Community Health.

“What I am most proud of this year is that our winning projects reflect the borough’s geographic diversity, once again demonstrating that the Brooklyn Chamber is an economic development organization that is borough-wide,” said Scissura. “We are here to help businesses across the entire borough.”

Anthony Crowell, chair of the Brooklyn Public Library Board of Trustees and Erminia Rivera, chair of the Gilberto Rivera Charitable Foundation, were also honored for their work in Brooklyn.
