In January, Brooklynites rejoiced when Mallory Hagan, former Miss New York was crowned Miss America 2013, setting the bar high.

Now, Miss Brooklyn Stephanie Accardo, and Miss Kings County Christina Moore are both running for their chance to shine on the national stage, competing to be Miss New York during the 80th Miss New York Pageant, scheduled for Saturday, July 13, to take place at the St. George Theater in Staten Island.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to compete for Miss New York alongside some of the most remarkable women in our state,” exclaimed Moore. “Being able to represent the borough where I was born and raised makes the experience that more special for me.”

Accardo, who graduated from St. Paul’s School of Nursing on Staten Island in January, and Moore, a former Wagner student, couldn’t be more excited to bring awareness to their powerful platforms while they’re on the spotlight.

The two beauties have been influencing their respective neighborhoods and beyond with their to-die-for will. Accardo has been attending parades and talking to young girls about eating disorders, while Moore has had an eye on raising funds for sarcoma.

“Everybody is beautiful. My message is: we should all be comfortable in our own skins,” Accardo noted.

Moore also spoke about her desire to raise awareness about sarcoma. “The driving force behind all of this,” she noted, “is my Aunt Josephine Schiavo,” who she says is a Stage 4 Sarcoma survivor and is a strong, fearless individual.

This year, people have the chance to send contestants to the Top 11 finals by voting for their favorite. Voting is open until Friday, July 12, at 10 p.m. and can be done by visiting http://missny.org/vote-for-your-favorite-contestant/.

“I think the community has been amazing; everyone has been very cool, very warm and welcoming to me,” said Accardo, adding , “Everyone wants to see me do well. I made great connections. I’m loving Brooklyn.”

As for Moore, “This is my third year competing for the state title and I am hoping the saying third times the charm will hold true for me,” she said. “As a native New Yorker I have worked to pave a strong path.”

Best of luck to these two confident 23-year-olds!
