Levin backs Quinn for mayor
Calling her “a proven leader,” City Councilman Stephen Levin announced that he is endorsing Council Speaker Christine Quinn for mayor. Levin (D-Brooklyn Heights-Greenpoint) joined several other council members, including Michael Nelson (D-Sheepshead Bay), who are backing Quinn at an announcement on the steps of City Hall on Tuesday.
“As Speaker of the City Council, Christine Quinn has stood up for New York’s families when they needed it most,” Levin said. “When thousands of children were at risk of losing their child care and after-school programs due to budget cuts, it was Chris Quinn who intervened to save them. I’ve been proud to work with her on a number of issues that make a difference for real New Yorkers, like expanding access to kindergarten and lowering fines for small business owners,” he said.
Nelson also praised Quinn. “I’ve seen Chris Quinn go to bat for New York’s middle class time and time again,” he said. “Whether it was looking out for my district in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, or passing eight on-time, balanced budgets, she’s worked to keep New York a city for all New Yorkers. She’s exactly the kind of principled progressive we need next year in the mayor’s office,” Nelson said.
