Needless to say, Pietro’s first family event was a tremendous success.

With an overwhelming $35,000 raised towards Pietro’s Fight, the non-profit organization created by the Scarso family to promote awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and raise money toward a cure, the fundraiser sent kids home tired and with a full belly, the parents explained.

Four hundred kids attended “Bump, Crash and Smash DMD,” held on Friday, June 21 at Adventurer’s Family Entertainment Center to raise proceeds for a boy in town who needs all the help he can get.

“Community-based events such as ‘Bump, Crash and Smash DMD’ are the examples that our children learn from, setting the foundation for a future generation of supporters,” said Dayna and Mani Scarso, four-year-old Pietro’s parents.

Pietro was born with DMD, a rare, incurable and crippling muscular disorder, and was diagnosed at an early age. Since then, his young and motivated parents have mobilized their beloved Bay Ridge, creating numerous community events to raise awareness and money.

“Thank you Adventurer’s for creating these memories of a lifetime and taking part in our fight,” they added.

This time, the event was meant for children, kicking off with Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello giving little Pietro his blessing, and with many local stores like Paneantico, Bagel Boy, Peter Pizza, Aunt Butchies and Villabate providing their goods for a fun-filled day.

The parents expressed their undying gratitude for the generous community in which they live.
