Are you looking for an affordable, family-friendly, fun fireworks celebration for Thursday’s July 4th festivities that are also safely in Brooklyn? Then look no further than Coney Island!

The annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest kicks the day off at 1 p.m. in front of the original Nathan’s Hot Dog at Stillwell and Surf Avenues.

But the main fun starts at 4:30 p.m. with a free fireworks display at MCU Park’s FourthFest.

Also on tap will be a “Beers of New York” Beer Garden, live music from the String Orchestra of Brooklyn and several oldies and Top 40 cover bands, the “Fastest Arm in Brooklyn Competition” testing the speed of your baseball pitch, and ballpark concessions.

The Fourth of July fireworks extravaganza starts shortly after 9 p.m.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit ConeyRecovers — the neighborhood’s Sandy recovery fund — and the Brooklyn Public Library.

The event is courtesy of a partnership between the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Alliance for Coney Island.
