Dean Monaco, an NYPD officer and father from Long Island, was recently diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to recover and survive. However, in spite of there being 3.5 million registered bone marrow donors nationwide, the likelihood of finding a match is low, demand is higher, and family members having the greatest chance of being a match.

That is why Delete Blood Cancer will be holding a bone marrow drive inside the Atlantic Terminal this Saturday, June 29, from Noon to 3 p.m.. Getting tested is as easy as a swab of inside your cheeks.

The drive will be on the mall side of the Terminal, between Mrs. Fields and Payless Shoes. No prior appointment is needed.

The drive is also being supported by Forest City Ratner, in honor of their head of security, Steven Bonano, who successfully received a bone marrow transplant recently.

Brooklyn Nets player Joe Johnson is one of many well-known advocates for bone marrow donation and Delete Blood Cancer’s work.
