Good morning. Today is the 179th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 27, 1902, reported that the state Senate passed a bill to appropriate $100,000 for a monument to the Revolutionary War prison ship martyrs in Fort Greene Park. That monument opened in 1908 and is still there. The monument replaced an earlier, less elaborate crypt that was the subject of Walt Whitman’s poem “Ode To Be Sung at Fort Greene” in 1846..

Well-known people who were born today include television executive J.J. Abrams, tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova, actor Tobey Maguire, businessman and former presidential candidate H. Ross Perot and former basketball player Chuck Connors Person.
