From reduced fare MetroCards to affordable health care, many seniors are unaware of the many options and special discounts available to them. To remedy this, Assemblywoman Joan Millman will be holding a Senior Resource Fair this Friday that will bring more than 50 non-profit organizations and government agencies together under one roof for the benefit of seniors.

The free event, co-sponsored by Senator Velmanette Montgomery and Senator Daniel Squadron, will take place at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen Street in Brooklyn Heights on Friday June 28th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participating organizations include Access-A-Ride, AARP, Legal Aid Society, NY State Comptroller’s Office, NYC Transit Mobile Sales, NYC Department for the Aging and the Visiting Nurse Services of New York.

“This event has been a huge success in the past and is an event that senior citizens throughout the District look forward to attending,” Assemblywoman Millman said. “Over forty community agencies participated in last year’s fair, and we are anticipating an even larger turn-out this year.” Millman started the fair in 1997, where it was held at P.S. 58 in Carroll Gardens.

Highlights from previous fairs included a visit from the New York State Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds, where some seniors discovered unclaimed accounts, legal information and free medical screenings.

Giveaways and light refreshments are included. For more information contact Assemblywoman Millman’s office at 718-246-4889.
