Good morning. Today is the 176th day of the year. On this day in 1963, the final edition of the second incarnation of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle was published. After the original Brooklyn Eagle went out of business in 1955, former comic-book publisher Robert W. Farrell and his partner Phillip Encisco acquired the Eagle’s assets and published it as a daily in 1962 and 1963. The current Eagle dates from 1996.

Well-known people who were born today include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, actor-comedian Jimmie Walker (“Good Times”), singer-songwriter Carly Simon (“Anticipation,” “You’re So Vain”), actress June Lockhart (“Lassie,” “Lost in Space”) and Hall of Fame basketball palyer, executive and coach Willis Reed.
