The men wore straw boaters, the women wore cloches, and the little boys wore newsies caps.  And those were just the hats!   New Yorkers came out in droves and in 1920s style the weekend of June 15-16, as Governors Island hosted Michael Arenella’s Eighth Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party.  Arenella, a Gowanus resident and devotee of that break-out era, is the leader of the Dreamland Orchestra, which performed the jazzy live music.  Highlights of the weekend included period dance performances, dance instruction, and 1920s-inspired food offerings.  Jay Gatsby would have approved.  No worries if you missed the June event; another Jazz Age Lawn Party will be held on Governors Island the weekend of August 17-18.
