After a long, dark winter, Brooklynites are ready for some fun in the sun, which kicks off on Friday, June 21 in Coney Island with karaoke, fireworks, the lighting of the newly decorated Parachute Jump and the Mermaid Parade.

The Alliance for Coney Island will host karaoke on the boardwalk beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The newly renovated Parachute Jump will be ceremonially lit sometime around 9 or 9:30 p.m., after the Brooklyn Cyclones game concludes.  What Borough President Marty Markowitz calls “Brooklyn’s Eiffel Tower,” underwent a $2 million makeover with 8,000 LED lights.

The legendary Friday night fireworks will light up the sky following the Parachute Jump lighting. Viewers are encouraged to stand on the boardwalk between West 10th Street and West 15th Street. Fireworks take place every Friday night at the same location through August 30.

Saturday, June 22 is the Mermaid Parade, which almost did not take place this year. The parade steps off at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, marches down Surf Avenue to West 10th Street and then down and along the boardwalk to the pier.
