Bensonhurst residents will once again have a place to buy toys for their children. Toys “R” Us, Inc., owners of the national chain store for toys and games, announced that its two Bensonhurst stores, Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us, will re-open at the Caesar’s Bay shopping mall on at 8973 Bay Parkway on June 28. The two stores, which share the same building, have been closed since Oct. 29 due to damage from Superstorm Sandy.

The stores are located in a 58,000-square-foot space that has been redesigned to provide a streamlined shopping experience, representatives of Toy “R” Us Inc. said.

The stores will celebrate the grand re-opening weekend with special sales, giveaways, kid-friendly activities and visits from popular costumed characters beginning on Friday, June 28 and through Sunday, June 30.

In the aftermath of the storm, the stores kept a presence in Bensonhurst. Beginning in mid-November, the company opened two temporary locations, one in the Caesar’s Bay shopping center itself, and the other in a temporary structure within the center’s parking lot to serve customers during the holiday shopping season. The temporary Toys “R” Us store within the shopping center will remain open until mid-June. The temporary structure in the parking lot closed in March.

The new Toys “R” Us store will hire 10 new full- and part-time employees, in addition to bringing back approximately 110 employees who worked at the former locations.

“After months of renovations following Hurricane Sandy, we’re thrilled to celebrate the grand re-opening of Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us in Brooklyn,” said Troy Rice, executive vice  president, stores and services for Toys “R” Us, Inc.

“Integrating two trusted brands in one location is a key initiative for the company, and we’re excited to once again provide our customers in the Brooklyn-area with the convenience and breadth of selection these stores offer whether they’re shopping for the must-have toys for the kids in their lives or products for the nearly 42,000 babies born in Kings County each year,” Rice said.

Toys “R” Us, Inc. operates 875 Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores in the United States and has 660 stores in 35 countries around the world. It also operates the legendary FAO Schwarz brand and sells toys in the brand’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
