Good morning. Today is the 163rd day of the year. To show how much things have changed, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported on June 12, 1901, that a group of delegates to a national YMCA convention in Boston started a petition to protest the fact that the convention was held at the Museum of Fine Arts. The reason was that the museum contained many “nude statues” that were passed down from the “corrupt age” of Greece and Rome. The petitioners said that the museum should cover up the offending parts of the body with fig leaves. Most of the Brooklyn delegates, the Eagle reported, ignored the petition.

Well-known people who were born today include jazz musician Chick Corea, former President George H.W. Bush, baseball player Hideki Matsui, actor Jim Nabors and singer Vic Damone (“On the Street Where You Live”).
