Brooklyn Today for June 10

Good morning. Today is the 161st day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 10, 1901, ran a story about a “delirious” patient, “rapidly becoming insane,” who escaped from St. John’s Hospital in Bedford-Stuyvesant who smashed the wire screen over her window and ran screaming, “nearly naked,” onto Albany Avenue. She tripped and fell under a horse and was taken back to the hospital. Twenty minutes later, however, she escaped again. According to eyewitnesses, she may have been taken in by a nearby merchant.
Well-known people who were born today include lawyer F. Lee Bailey, former U.S. Senator John Edwards (D-North Carolina), author-journalist Jeff Greenfield, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Olympic figure skater Tara Lipinski.
