Good morning. Today is the 154th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for June 3, 1899, reported on the death of Johann Strauss, the “waltz king.”  Many of his waltzes, such as “The Blue Danube” and “Tales From the Vienna Woods,” are well known to this day, as is his opera “Die Fledermaus.” The article detailed how Strauss, from Vienna, was trained to be a bank clerk, but that he took music lessons in defiance of his father. The article also talked about his visit to the United States in 1876.

Well-known people who were born today include Cuban leader Raul Castro, TV journalist Anderson Cooper, singer Deniece Williams, television producer Chuck Barris and actor Scott Valentine.
