Downtown Brooklyn will become a hot spot for science and technology enthusiasts of all ages this Saturday, June 1 with the return of the World Science Festival to two locations: NYU-Poly’s MetroTech campus and Brooklyn Bridge Park. (Update: See photos of the 2013 World Science Festival in Brooklyn here.)

From noon to 8 p.m., MetroTech commons will be transformed into “Innovation Square,” where enthusiasts can see demos of flying robots and robots that clean the ocean, a 3-D camera and 3-D printers, a super evaporator, a drone pick-up and delivery system, digital games and more. Attendees can attend a full line up of talks and workshops and enjoy live performances by Blue Man Group tech-guru Bill Swartz.

At 8 p.m. the party moves to Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1, where professional and amateur astronomers have set up telescopes for a free evening of urban stargazing.

Astronomers will discuss their work, and live music will celebrate the astrological event “The Dance of the Planets.” The festivities will feature astronomy groups from around the area, family-friendly activities, twilight sailing of the Schooner Mystic Whaler, refreshments and more.

Last year thousands of technology fans attended the World Science Festival’s first major incursion into Brooklyn.

The event is tied in with the growth of Brooklyn’s Tech Triangle and the coming of NYU’s Center for Urban Progress in Science in Downtown Brooklyn.
