Training for City Tech Hospitality Management students supported by Beitler Student Resource Endowment Fund
This spring, 62 students from New York City College of Technology’s (City Tech’s) award-winning Hospitality Management program successfully completed the Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) certification course under the direction of Professor Patrick O’Halloran through funding provided by the City Tech Foundation’s Beitler Student Resource Endowment Fund.
Professor O’Halloran is a certified TIPS trainer, and Dr. Lorraine Beitler is a retired City Tech administrator and educator as well as the foundation’s former vice chair.
“The reason it is important for students to become TIPS certified,” said Professor O’Halloran, “is that in this volatile economy the broader their education, skill set and industry certifications, the greater their employment opportunities. My students will not only carry this certification with them when they graduate and start their careers, but it will also greatly benefit their employers through discounts on liquor liability. More importantly, the fundamentals learned through TIPS will help ensure the responsible service of alcohol and safer communities.”
