Brooklyn Prospect Charter School to offer International Baccalaureate program

Brooklyn Prospect Charter School said on Tuesday that it will open its first elementary school this September in Downtown Brooklyn (District 13). Starting with kindergarten, the school will take up the upper three floors of 80 Willoughby Street, alongside St. Joseph High School for girls.

The new Brooklyn Prospect program will grow a grade each year, serving approximately 300 kindergarten through 5th graders at full capacity. Students enrolled in BPCS’s 5th grade will have the option to continue in BPCS’s middle school and high schools.

“Six years ago we set out to open a diverse, high-performing public school that would prepare students for a global world. We are proud of how far we’ve come.” said Daniel Rubenstein, BPCS co-founder and executive director. “Our new K-5 division will allow our acclaimed 6-12 program to have greater academic impact on more students.”

BPCS is one of just a few non-selective public schools in New York City following the respected International Baccalaureate program.

An information session takes place May 30. To register for the June 6 admission lottery, prospective kindergarten families must complete an application on the school website before 5 p.m. on June 3.
