A coveted nomination to play in next year’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game in San Antonio’s Alamodome in Texas, has been snatched up by Poly Prep Junior and defensive tackle, Jay Hayes.

The annual All-American Bowl–the premier high school football game in the nation–will see its 14th game in January, 2014, with the top 400 high school football players in the nation contending to join the likes of past participants, New York Jets player Nick Mangold and former Jet Tim Tebow.

It’s an amazing opportunity, commented Tina Beller, U.S. Army public affairs specialist, who also noted that the event provides, An opportunity for the Army to connect with students.

Staff Sergeant Tanner Jacobs, presented Hayes with the nomination certificate on Tuesday, April 30.

I’m grateful for the nomination, said Hayes, who said he would like to pursue a path in the NFL.

The football player, with six years of experience under his belt, also said he values education and is already committed to the University of Notre Dame.

The games are great, added Poly Prep Football Coach Dino Mangiero. The annual game, he explained, allows student athletes, parents, teachers, and coaches to connect with the U.S. Army and enhance American morale.

In order to be chosen for the game, nominees must make it to the 1-in-90 round and maintain an exceptional grade record in school while continuing to demonstrate upstanding behavior as high school students.

You’ve gotta play hard and study hard, added Beller.
