Police search for suspect who allegedly grabbed a cop’s badge

A 43-year-old Red Hook man is wanted by the NYPD after attempted grand larceny after tearing “the shield off the shirt of a uniformed police officer” during the arrest of another individual in front of the Red Hook Houses on Saturday, May 11, said police.

It was around 4:40 p.m. on May 11 when officers responded to a report of several people fighting and resisting arrest in front of 79 Lorraine Street. The suspect, Arthur Lawyer, is said to have grabbed the officer’s shield as police took a woman into custody. Lawyer then fled on foot, although the badge was later recovered.

No injuries were reported.

Lawyer stands around 6-feet-4-inches tall, weights 185 pounds, and has brown eyes and braided black hair.
