Following a series of fatal car accidents on and around Flatbush Avenue in the past month, the 78th Precinct has begun to step up enforcement throughout the area, including along Third and Fifth Avenues in Park Slope.

Enforcement will increase along the two avenues for pedestrian safety and walking, said officers at the precinct’s April Community Council meeting. There will also be bike lane and Prospect Park traffic enforcement.

However, education will come first as part of a three-pronged effort:

  • education,
  • enforcement, and
  • engineering.

This is in addition to the Barclays-specific team of officers responsible for maintaining traffic and pedestrian safety outside of the sports arena, located at Flatbush and Fifth/Sixth Avenues.
