For teens who are hoping to have a summer job, this just in from the city’s Department of Youth and Community Development:

Summer is just around the corner—and so is the May 10th deadline for New York City residents between the ages of 14and 24 to apply for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), administered by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development. SYEP, the nation’s largest summer youth employment initiative, provides summer employment and educational experiences that capitalize on individual strengths, develop skills and competencies, and connect youth with positive adult role models. In 2013, SYEP will provide six weeks (July 8 – August 16) of entry-level work experience in a variety of jobs at thousands of worksites, including community-based organizations, government agencies and private sector businesses. Younger youth will work 20 hours per week; all other participants will work 25 hours per week.

For more information and to apply, visit nyc.gov/dycd or call DYCD Youth Connect at (800) 246-4646.
