The Smith-9th Street station will finally have its grand reopening next Friday, April 26, tweeted Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson Kevin Ortiz today.

The newly renovated station will again be a hub for the F and G trains to Carroll Gardens and Red Hook after two years of repairs and delays.

The station was closed in summer of 2011 and was due to reopen late in 2012 before the scheduled date was pushed back. A report by the MTA’s Capital Program Oversight Committee blamed the delay in part to “poor management” by the contractor that was then made worse by damage from Hurricane Sandy, added Inglesby.

The F/G lines have skipped the station for the duration of construction; the G line was also extended five stops into Brooklyn, to Church Avenue, as part of an effort to appease frustrated riders. That extension was made permanent in July of 2012.
