Three hundred and fifty kids of all ages from the St. Athanasius baseball league took part in the traditional opening day ceremonies to commemorate the beginning of the baseball season.

“We’re hopeful about competing for the championship on many different levels,” said Mike Garthaffner, a member of the youth board, wishing this time of year to be about “teamwork,” but most importantly “fun” for everyone.

The youth athletes marched through Bensonhurst with their friends and families, accompanied by the Bishop Kearney marching band.
