Good morning. Today is the 106th day of the year. On this day in 1899, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle carried an ad for the Eagle Warehouse and Storage Company in the Fulton Ferry Landing area. The circa-1894 building, designed by noted architect Frank Freeman, was never owned by the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, but it replaced an earlier building on the site that was.

The landmark building, designed to store valuables, was also used for a variety of other functions, and part of it served as a temporary headquarters for Brooklyn Law School in the first two decades of the 20th century. In 1980, the structure was renovated and turned into condominiums.

Well-known people who were born today include Hall of Fame basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, comedian Ellen Barkin, former pontiff Benedict XVI, basketball player Luol Deng, singer Bobby Vinton and comedian Martin Lawrence.
