High school students bowl for charity
Students from Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge went bowling for dollars and raised more than $3,000 for a school scholarship fund.
More than 250 people from the high school took over Maple Lanes on Feb. 26 and bowled to raise money for the school’s Joseph Graffagnino Scholarship, a fund named in memory of a firefighter from Dyker Heights killed in the line of duty in 2007. Graffagnino, a Fort Hamilton graduate, died in a seven-alarm fire at the site of the former Deutsche Bank building near Ground Zero six years ago.
His memory is preserved through a scholarship for seniors who share the same traits and have overcome obstacles to succeed in life, school officials said.
