On February 19, 500 PAL youngsters from all five boroughs of New York City competed in city-wide tournaments during a fun-filled day of games and laughter at the Police Athletic League’s (PAL) Annual Educational Tournament of Champions at their Edward Byrne Center in Queens.

Champions ages 5 to 13 from PAL’s Wynn Center, I.S. 218 Beacon and Brownsville Beacon in Brooklyn, challenged their peers from PAL centers across the city in Checkers, Boggle, Spelling Bee, Rebus Challenge, Ping Pong, Trouble, UNO, PAL’s Fitness Challenge, Mancala, Tower Challenge, Basketball and Boat Expo.

The Tournament of Champions brings together boys and girls of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. PAL encourages youngsters to develop athletic and educational skills, and the sportsmanship qualities of discipline, fair play and healthy competition.

Founded in 1914, PAL has served the city’s young people for 98 years.  PAL provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to 37,000 boys and girls annually. For more information, visit www.palnyc.org.
