Good morning. Today is the 60th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of March 1, 1901, reported that some of the employees of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit (BRT) company, one of the ancestors of today’s transit system, got in trouble for refusing to wear their new khaki uniforms on the trains. The BRT, in retaliation, said that if they didn’t wear the uniforms, they wouldn’t get free passes and would have to pay just like anyone else. Some of the men, calling the new uniforms “rough-rider clothing,” said they’d rather lose their jobs than wear them.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Robert Conrad (“The Wild Wild West”), singer Roger Daltrey of The Who, former hockey player Ron Francis, director Ron Howard (“Apollo 13,” “A Beautiful Mind”), singer Harry Belafonte (“The Banana Boat Song,” “Jamaica Farewell”) and singer Justin Bieber, who recently appeared at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
