Young athletes recognized at awards ceremony

The Dyker Heights Athletic Association/St. Bernadette “The Knights” held their annual travel baseball trophy awards night at Gargiulo’s catering hall on Friday January 25. There were over 255 people in attendance.

The kids were all excited about receiving their participation awards and there were several awards for special achievement. The night started off with Angelo Fogliano receiving the New York State Cal Ripken tournament MVP award from the Knights.

Mike Baglivo spoke about how well DHAA kids performed in the Cal Ripken 9U and 10U tournaments.In the 10U, a DHAA team was runner-up for the New York State Championship.The 9, 10, and 13-14 Knights Travel Kiwanis champs received their awards and championship jackets.

The 9 -10 Cardinals, who were champions of the DHAA St. A’s 9-10 league, were presented their jackets by coach John Degregorio The Varsity girls that won St. Anselm’s league received their jackets from coaches Dom Angilletta and Dan Fogliano. The JV girls that won St. Anselm’s league received their jackets from coaches Joe and Dina Amatore.

Some special achievement awards were also presented.Arianna Cona, Kristina Angilletta and Nicole Sparacio won Coach’s Awards for the Varsity Division. Brooke Signorile and Anna Boylan won Coach’s Awards for the Junior Varsity Division.

The dinner also featured six Knights directors’ awards. These awards are the organization’s highest honors and are given to the players who best represent the Knights’ organizational objective which is to cherish, sustain and promote good citizenship, sportsmanship, loyalty, honesty and character for our youth.

This year,Michael Iacobucci won the Archbishop John Hughes Council 48 award. Nikolas Angilletta won the Nicholas Guariglia award.Matthew McCarthy won the Tony Maglio award.Keara Donahue won the Victor Allegretti award. Brianna Alicandro won the DHAA award.Stephanie Ferrara won the Karen Barone director’s award.
