On National Signing Day, Feb. 6, Fort Hamilton Principal Kaye Houlihan and Football Head Coach Dan Perez opened the principal’s conference room to two current seniors and one recent transfer from Xaverian to sign their commitment letters for college football scholarships to two northeast area schools.

After a stellar run playing tight end and linebacker for Xaverian, Jon Badyna’s parents found it necessary to place their son at Fort Hamilton as the result of shouldering the financial recovery from Hurricane Sandy.  “I wish I had this guy on my team last season”, stated Coach Perez.  “He’s the type of player that makes a real difference.”

Badya, who had just transferred into Fort Hamilton just two days earlier stated that he’s looking forward to starting his collegiate career at the University of New Haven, a place that seems to be the right fit for him.

As for Fort Hamilton’s two three-year varsity players, Armani Garrick and Travon Reid Segure, besides earning football scholarships at Stony Brook University, they got their wish to continue to play together at the same school.  “That’s something we always talked about”, said Garrick, one of Fort Hamilton’s top lineman.

“I’m proud of Armani as a student athlete and his accomplishments on and off the field,” said Coach Perez.  “He leads by example.”

Proudly wearing his new Stony Brook cap while posing with his father, Travon Reid Segure also thanked his mother and his aunt for keeping him focused and not to give up on his dream.  “At 17 years old, I am just humble and grateful for this opportunity,” said Segure.

“He was one of the most dynamic players on our team”, said Coach Perez.  “Travon played just about every position and was good it at.  He fought through the adversity of injury to make a comeback in his senior year this season and was rewarded.”

In addition to these recent signings, Fort Hamilton has sent other players to Division I Colleges for scholarships including Brandon Riddish ’11 and Ivan Foy ’11 to Syracuse; James Howell ’11 to Wagner; Keith Stroud ’07 to Rutgers, and current Philadelphia Eagle cornerback Jaiquawn Jarrett ’07 to Temple.
