There’s a new captain in town.

Captain James B. Ryan has joined the 94th Precinct as its commanding officer, taking the place of Deputy Inspector Terence Hurson.

A 19-year veteran and Brooklyn native, Ryan arrived on Wednesday, January 30. He previously worked on the Queens gang squad, as the executive officer at the 19th and 25th Precincts in Manhattan, and in the NYPD’s narcotics bureau and detective squad.

“It’s great to come back to [Brooklyn and] this community; I’ve heard nothing but positive things,” said Ryan at the February meeting of the 94th Precinct Community Council, where he noted that Greenpoint residents have “great community relations with the police department.”

Ryan said that he looks forward to applying his broad experience in the neighborhood, where he said his biggest challenge may be to “keep the community aware of current and newer crime trends with technology.”

“He’s lucky to be here; what better precinct could he be in,” said Tony Argento, owner of Broadway Stages, a film and television facility at 203 Meserole Avenue.
