Bill Clinton says Ed Koch had a big brain — and an even bigger heart.

The former president said Monday that he sent a note to Koch on his 88th birthday.

Koch wrote back. Instead of talking about his own illness, he asked about Hillary Rodham Clinton’s health.

Clinton told mourners that he also was speaking on behalf of his wife, who loved Koch “very much.”

Addressing the departed former mayor, he said: “We’re all doing fine but we miss you.”

Added Clinton: “We’re doing better because you lived.”
