At its first small business mixer of the year, held on January 24 at CitiStorage in Williamsburg, the Greenpoint Chamber of Commerce made it clear that they intend to do big things for small business in 2013.

According to Greenpoint Chamber President Jeff Mann, the event is part of the Chamber’s main mission to  “provide networking, education and assistance to local businesses.” To these ends, courses, lectures, exercise, and just some good old networking were a few of the benefits local business owners in attendance experienced.

At this event, notable entrepreneur and author Norm Brodsky spoke to the gathering of area merchants and residents about how to build effective business relationships. Throughout the evening, guests met with potential customers, other vendors, and entrepreneurs.

In addition to the mixer portion of the evening, the Greenpoint Chamber also announced a number of new initiatives aimed at “improving the overall commercial landscape in the community.” These included graffiti removal efforts, installation of new signs and high tech, curbside “BigBellies” – high-tech solar compacting garbage cans.

New members of the Greenpoint Chamber include William Harvey Studio, TD Bank, Edward Jones, Wythe Hotel, Evergreen Funeral Home, Inc., Capital One Bank, Hosh Yoga, and PSC Community Services.

The Chamber’s board is comprised of Chairperson Elaine Brodsky of CitiStorage, our Gina Argento (Broadway Stages), Martha Holstein (Strategic Urban Solutions), Dave Lombino (Wythe Hotel / Two Trees Development), Carolina Roberts, Charley Ryan (Brooklyn Bowl), Tom Schaefer (Chase), Kevin Thompson (ExxonMobil) and Diana Zelvin (PS 84 Greenhouse Project).

Their first officers are Jeff Mann – President (Greenpoint Gazette), Kara Dusenbury (Corcoran), Eric Hall (Red Star Bar), John Ricco (Grandma Rose’s) and Ken Varga (NY Grant Company).
