The Appellate Division Courthouse on Monroe Place in Brooklyn Heights was filled with many of the members of Brooklyn’s legal elite last Thursday evening. They were all there to commemorate the induction as state Supreme Court judges of Justices Barry Kamins and William Miller, and the room was filled with laughter and reminiscences.

Hon. Richard Eng, presiding justice of the Appellate Division, 2nd Department, served as the master of ceremonies. Rev. W. Taharka Robinson, of the community group Brooklyn Anti-Violence Coalition, prepared the event’s invocation. New York State Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman officially swore in Justices Kamins and Miller.

First appointed to the bench as a Criminal Court judge in 1983 by then New York City Mayor Edward Koch, Miller was elected to the position of Kings County Supreme Court Justice in the November 2012 election. Kamins, also elected in 2012, jointly serves as the Administrative Judge for Criminal Matters for the 2nd Judicial District.
