After doing a strong job getting the MTA up and running quickly after SuperStorm Sandy, its chairman Joe Lhota is expected to resign on Friday in order to run for the city’s 2013 mayoral opening, CBS New York and other outlets report.

Lhota was also the deputy mayor under Rudy Guliani and has his unabashed support, CBS said. City law dictates that someone cannot run for mayor while holding the city’s executive transportation position. So Lhota will wait two days until after the MTA fare hike vote and will reportedly call it quits in a press conference on Friday. We’ll have more as it develops here at the Daily Eagle.
