Fund for Modern Courts to honor Hon. Kamins, respected Brooklyn jurist
Hon. Barry Kamins, administrative judge for criminal matters for the Second Judicial District and for the Criminal Court of the City of New York, will be honored by the Fund for the Modern Court today at its 10th annual Cyrus R. Vance Tribute.
The breakfast tribute, which will take place at 8 a.m. at the Yale Club, 50 Vanderbilt Ave., is dedicated to the memory of former Secretary of State Cyrus R. Vance.
Welcoming remarks will be made by Milton L. Williams Jr., chair of the Fund for Modern Courts. Cyrus R. Vance Jr., Manhattan district attorney, will present the award and speak about the importance of public service.
Among the previous honorees were Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes in 2008; Michael A. Cardozo, the corporation counsel of the City of New York, in 2009; Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Fern A. Fisher in 2010: and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman in 2011.
Hon. Kamins was appointed a criminal court judge by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2008, was elevated to acting Supreme Court justice in 2009, and was elected to the position of Supreme Court justice this year.
