Does the name “Murphy” sound familiar?

Eddie Murphy, the actor and comedian who starred in such famous films as “Dr. Dolittle,” “The Nutty Professor” and “Beverly Hills Cop” and its sequels, and as the voice of Donkey in “Shrek,” is definitely not the only one in the family with acting talent.

It’s in the blood. On Saturday, December 1, Bay Ridge residents will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a comedy show featuring Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy’s brother, right here in the neighborhood.

From 7 to 10 p.m., Charlie will perform for the troops at the Fort Hamilton Post Theater, and for anyone, 18 and over, who is up for a good laugh.

The 2,000 troops “need a little down time to relax; [this will] help them relieve stress,” said Trevor Loew, the chief of the business recreation division at Fort Hamilton.

“Troops that were deployed to Fort Hamilton to aid the victims affected by the storm have been working around the clock. We hope this comedy show will put a smile on their faces, and let them know how much we appreciate what they have done,” he continued.

As of print date, and with another two weeks to go, 100 seats had been sold. The theater fits 465 people, so don’t miss out on your chance to attend. Tickets cost $25 and can be easily purchased by visiting: www.hamiltonmwr.com.

How did they decide upon Murphy? “We wrote down the names of comedians that we like here in the office, and when we called Charlie he seemed great, clean. He gave us a price that was reasonable. We spent a little bit more money that we usually spend, but it’s worth it,” concluded Loew.

Charlie Murphy has been seen on “The Chapelle Show,” “Are We There Yet,” “Martin” and “The Boondocks”; he’s also been featured in such films as “Night at the Museum,” “Norbit” and “CB4.”
