Just like during Hurricane Irene last year, Prospect  Park and neighboring Green-Wood Cemetery in mid-Brooklyn both experienced extensive damage due to Hurricane Sandy.

At Green-Wood, at least 100 trees were lost, many ripped from the roots, and hundreds of additional trees were damaged. In addition, dozens of monuments were damaged, many due to falling tree limbs and trees.

At Prospect Park, more than 100 trees were also damaged or destroyed, according to a park spokesman. The Lincoln Playground was also damaged. Fortunately, none of the park’s well-known structures, such as the Audubon Center or the Carousel, sustained any damage, he said.
